Designers are applying life cycle thinking in construction to transform buildings into active carbon sinks and drive the circular economy in construction. Concepts tested through circular construction strategies and endâofâlife reuse in construction are redefining the environmental impact of construction, replacing linear consumption with regenerative systems that support green construction and ecoâfriendly construction.
The sectorâs adoption of whole life carbon accounting and life cycle cost optimisation reflects a mature awareness that sustainable building design is inseparable from financial performance. Whether evaluated through BREEAM or the emerging BREEAM v7 criteria, projects are measured by building lifecycle performance, verified traceability, and compatibility with circular economy principles. The practical pathway to net zero whole life carbon now depends on scaling proven technologies, reinforcing green infrastructure, and embedding sustainable design into every stage of delivery so that carbon neutral construction becomes the industry default rather than the exception.
