To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we’re sharing 20 stories of our Leaders tackling the climate crisis with courage, commitment and creativity, building a better climate future in their communities and around the world.
First up: Nayelli Hernandez Crespo.
@nayellihc became an environmental activist at 17. At just 20, she opened the first solar energy store in Yucatán, Mexico – and that was only the beginning.
Since then, she’s helped hundreds of young entrepreneurs strengthen their businesses, built a community reaching more than 9,000 Indigenous women entrepreneurs across Mexico and Guatemala, and brought her climate advocacy all the way to the ballot – running for the Mexican Senate on a climate platform.
But what makes Nayelli’s story so powerful? How consistently she’s used what she’s learned to create opportunities for other people to recognize their own power and use it. Ten years after becoming a Climate Reality Leader, she’s still knocking on doors, building community, and finding new ways to push for what comes next.
