Atlas Copco has introduced what it claims is the largest energy storage system currently available, aimed at reducing dependence on diesel generators at construction sites and industrial locations. The megawatt-scale battery system addresses growing demand for low carbon building solutions, offering power resilience and helping construction firms meet carbon footprint reduction goals. This release supports the shift toward Whole Life Carbon reduction and Life Cycle Cost efficiency in sustainable construction practices.

In the UK, new recycling regulations now require businesses, including construction sites, to separate dry recyclables, food waste, and residual waste. This regulatory move highlights the importance of responsible waste handling and supports the adoption of Circular Economy practices. For the construction sector, stricter material segregation encourages more rigorous Whole Life Carbon Assessment and improved site-level sustainable building practices.

$710 million expansion of the Northern Lights carbon capture and storage project in Norway. The development is set to triple its CO₂ storage capacity, supporting the decarbonisation of cement and steel production, which are essential components in the building industry. By enabling carbon neutral construction across hard-to-abate sectors, CCS plays a vital role in low-impact construction and supports environmental sustainability in construction at scale.

The UK government has committed £16 million to boost flood resilience through 1,000 new flood defence schemes. The initiative targets rural and coastal areas increasingly affected by extreme weather and opens up opportunities for climate-resilient infrastructure projects. These investments signal growing public demand for eco-friendly construction and lifecycle assessment in new builds and retrofits, especially in areas at risk from Climate Change.

Larkhill Garrison, as part of the British Army’s Project Prometheus, has unveiled a new rooftop solar installation, reflecting a larger trend toward renewable energy integration across government buildings. Renewables in public infrastructure help reduce operational emissions and are increasingly part of sustainable design frameworks applied to retrofitting and new developments. This supports both net zero carbon goals and energy-efficient buildings in public sector developments.

The Healthy Buildings 2025 report highlights key recommendations to enhance human and environmental health in the built environment. The report calls for improved ventilation, use of green building materials, and acoustic comfort, all of which contribute to sustainable architecture. These elements are central to current environmental sustainability strategies in construction and help raise standards in global green construction guidelines.
